Licensed Mental Health Professional
About Me
Hello. My name is Derio Rivera and I am a licensed mental health professional. I have always been passionate about helping others. I started my journey early with volunteering as early as six years old. After I completed my undergraduate degree I began working in public schools. I started substitute teaching and worked in private schools as well as several mental health programs in both NY and CT. I have been in the mental health field for over seven years. I have been working with at risk adolescents and young adults for over a decade now. I spent three years at a private boarding school called the Kildonan school, completed one year at a therapeutic mental health facility called Green Chimneys, completed a year AmeriCorps program in Hudson, NY with special needs adults, and six years with Causeway Collaborative. Additionally, I’ve worked with Stokes Counseling Services for over four years as well.
I completed my Undergraduate degree at SUNY New Paltz. My Bachelors degree was in both History, and Philosophy. I completed a Semester at Andover Newton Theology school which is now part of Yale's Divinity school. I completed my master's degree at Southern Connecticut State University in clinical mental health and counseling. I received training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Based Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
When I’m not working to help others I enjoy spending time with my son, wife, our dog, listening and playing music, and meditating.
